No joy for the Reserves versus Rhayader

A defeat for the first team, but the Reserves picked up a win

Both the first team and Reserves headed to south Herefordshire on Saturday, 23 July and it was prove something of a mixed day.

Mark Weiland’s first team squad found their Herefordshire Premier Division opponents too hot to handle as Ewyas Harold ran out 5-o winners.

But there was better news for the Reserves  as goals from Adam Crowe and Ioan Hughes helped them to a 2-1 win over Ewyas Harold Reserves.

Reserve-team boss Tom Ammonds felt this had been another very encouraging performance in the build up to the new season.

“I was very pleased as this was a totally different team to the one that had played at Orleton on the Thursday evening,” he said.

“The combined age of the back three was 108!

“But this was a good competitive game over three 30-minute periods and we were all square at 0-0 after the first one.

“They went ahead in final third with a deflected shot which Durbs had no chance with.

“To our credit we then battled with Adam doing well to rob their full back and squeeze the ball into an empty net.

“We scored again within a few minutes – Ieuan Baynham put in a strong tackle which fell to Spencer Napolitano.

“He fed the ball through to Ioan Hughes who finished it very tidily.

“All in all I was very happy and would also like to thank those who stayed to watch the game including Tony, Sue and Haydn – it was much appreciated.”
