Presteigne St Andrews FC had to make do with a point from their Boxing Day Spar Mid Wales League second division game at home to bottom side Penybont.

This game was anything but dull, with two penalties and a sending off, with Presteigne leading in the first half, but then needing a late equaliser to salvage a point.

Presteigne took an early lead through Josh Gardner, but Penybont were very much in the game and Simon Hamer in the home team’s goal had to make a number of smart first-half saves.

The visitors drew level on the half-hour mark, but an Alan Stocker header put Presteigne back in front before the break.

The home side created other good chances in the second period, but Penybont then turned the game on its head when they twice scored from the penalty spot.

But Matt Strangwood popped up with a third Presteigne goal near the end to salvage a point for the home side.

In the view of many at the game, a draw was probably about the right result although no doubt both managers will feel their side did enough to win the game.
