There will be 13 clubs in the Spar Mid Wales League second division for the 2017-18 season.

The leagues were ratified at the FAW Council meeting held on Wednesday, 28 June.

With regard to the issue of Hay St Marys asking to step down from the first division, common sense prevailed and they have been allowed to take up a place in division two for the coming campaign.

As we welcome back Hay to the league, so we say goodbye to Borth United who head in the opposite direction as they will take up Hay’s place in division one.

Most people would surely feel this was the right decision as Borth finished third in division two last season and were up there and challenging for much of the campaign.

Talgarth Town will be back in the Spar League – they have been promoted from the Mid Wales League (South) alongside Brecon Northcote.

But Trewern have been refused permission to take up a promotion spot from the Montgomeryshire Amateur League.

They played in division two of that league last season and this is the reason they have not been allowed to make the step up.

League secretary Phil Woosnam explains: “In the case of vacancies, there is no longer the ability to move more than one step up the ladder.

“This is the reason for Trewern’s refusal to division two as it was a step up from Tier 6 to Tier 4.”
