Presteigne St Andrews FC will head to Penybont United for their Spar Mid Wales League second-division fixture on Saturday, 17 February.

A raft of postponements coupled with a few defeats mean the first team’s last win was on 9 December and so they will be keen to get things back on track at the division’s basement club.

Penybont have clearly found the going tough this season and have only one win from their opening 16 league matches.

But they won that one in style – they beat Talgarth Town 4-0 at the Racecourse on Saturday, 30 December so, clearly, on their day they can pose a threat.

If you couple this with the fact that ‘the ‘bont’ have generally held the upper hand over us in recent seasons, then we would be wise to take nothing for granted in this one.

Two seasons ago, Penybont did the league ‘double’ over us while both fixtures last season ended in draws.

Presteigne did win the opening meeting between the sides in the current campaign when Matt Strangwood netted a brace with Josh Gardner also on target in a 3-2 success at Llanandras Park on 1 September.

The kick off at Penybont on Saturday will be at 2.15pm.

A reminder there is no fixture for the Reserves this weekend – they are scheduled to return to action next Saturday – 24 February – when they will head to Llanidloes Town Reserves.
