Presteigne St Andrews’ Reserve team player Alan Stocker has proved he is an all-year sportsman by winning two awards at Presteigne Cricket Club’s annual dinner.

While his decision to miss the Reserves’ game at Rhayader on Friday 25 September might have been frowned upon by some, it was fully vindicated as he effectively cleaned up when it came to the prize-giving for the Sunday side.

Alan won the Sunday bowler of the year award for his consistent showings in friendly matches across the summer as he regularly proved the scourge of opposing sides with at least one six-wicket haul.

He was no slouch with the bat either, averaging more than 27 runs per innings on Sundays but in the interests of fairness it was felt this award should go elsewhere…

He then won the award for Most Improved Player which was voted for by players from both the Saturday league team and Sunday friendly side.

Presteigne Cricket Club narrowly missed out on promotion from division three of the Marches League as they finished in third place.
