Both games off – again

I know this is going to come as a major shock to many of you, but just to confirm that – yet again – both matches have been called off this weekend.

Club chairman Alan Randell informed committee members on Thursday that the Reserves’ scheduled home match against Rhayader Town Reserves on Saturday, 26 January had been postponed.

I think it is fair to say Alan was hardly going out on a limb with this decision – there is a blanket of snow on the pitch and temperatures were due to be well below freezing overnight, so no great surprise there.

Meanwhile, the first team’s trip to Hay St Marys was called off on Friday afternoon, although there were strong rumours on Thursday evening that Forest Road would not be playable.

So, more fixtures to rearrange for later in the season – it is starting to look as though there could be a lot of games to play in a relatively short space of times and, with three teams playing their home matches on the ground, clearly groundsman Tracy Hammond is going to have to monitor things closely.

The thaw is due to start at some stage over the weekend – so, cue a whole load of games around the leagues that will be called off due to waterlogged pitches in the coming days and weeks..
