Fewer games for the Reserves this season

After the disappointing news that there will be a reduced league for the first team to play in this season, it is appears as though the Reserves will also have fewer league matches this season.

The Mid Wales League (South)’s secretary Paul Worts has confirmed there will be only 12 clubs in the league for the 2013-14 season.

The good news is that the Football Association showed the kind of common sense not normally associated with any governing body of any sport and allowed Newcastle to remain in the league.

This was despite the original concerns that they be forced to return to the English set up as they are, of course, based in Shropshire.

But that good news has been somewhat tempered by the revelation that three of last season’s clubs will not be entering the league this time around.

Brecon Town, Bucknell and Knighton Town Reserves have all informed the league they will not be taking part.

The exact reasons are not entirely clear, although Brecon’s Richard Spiers has told the local press he had been looking for more support from within the club and they had ultimately decided they couldn’t enter this coming season.

Bucknell’s future had been uncertain as they were in the same boat as Newcastle in that they are also based in Shropshire and playing in Mid Wales.

There had been some concern over the club’s future anyway, and it appears as though they might have decided to take a season out of competitive football – if anyone knows differently to this, then let me know by clicking here and I will then gladly set the record straight.

Again, there is a suggestion that Knighton Town Reserves were struggling to find someone to run the side and so they have decided to focus solely on the first team for the coming campaign.
