Mixed fortunes this weekend

Presteigne St Andrews FC slipped to their first league defeat of the season when they went down 1-0 in their derby game against Rhosgoch Rangers at Llanandras Park.

The pre-match omens were not looking too good as manager Danny Williams knew he was going to be without five first-team players.

Alex Winstone and Joe Mayglothling were sitting this one out due to suspension while Frankie Beke was missing due to injury.

Lee Sutton was unavailable due to work commitments while it is reported Nick Evans has decided his future lies elsewhere.

But, despite these problems, Presteigne more than played their part in a game that was eventually settled by a Joey Price goal just after the hour mark.

Joey’s 25-yard effort somehow squirmed through the grasp of the home-team keeper Simon Hamer and this was ultimately enough to secure the three points for the Crows.

Meanwhile, the Reserves faced another long trip in the Emrys Morgan Cup, but it proved a worthwhile one as they came through 6-3 at Dewi Stars.

An own goal inside the first five minutes had the Reserves on their way and then S.pencer Napolitano rounded the keeper after seizing on to an Alan Stocker cross to make it 2-0.

Dewi Stars got themselves back into the game when a free kick on the edge of the area took a deflection and hit keeper Trevor Gummer on the head before dropping to a Stars striker who netted from close range.

But Presteigne Reserves soon restored their two-goal advantage when Spencer Napolitano’s ball down the right found Ioan Hughes and his cross was turned in by Alan Stocker at the near post.

Dewi Stars then hit back again to make it 3-2 before Ioan Hughes then got in on the act when he arrived at the far post to loop his header back over the keeper and into the far corner for 4-2 before the interval

Into the second half, and Presteigne Reserves found themselves playing up the not inconsiderable slope and the first 20 minutes of the second half were pretty even before Presteigne made it 5-2 when Alan Stocker netted his second of the afternoon.

But the home side refused to lie down from a back-post header with 10 minutes remaining, only for Manny to finally out the game to bed when he scored Presteigne Reserves’ sixth.
