Presteigne St Andrews FC continued to show welcome signs of improvement as they eased through to the second round of the Central Wales Cup on Saturday, 1 November.

Jamie Allen’s side proved far too good for visiting Llangedwyn from the Montgomeryshire Amateur League, first division as Presteigne ran out 13-0 victors.

Christian Roberts led the way for Presteigne with four goals, while Ashley Griffiths and Duane Anning each netted a hat-trick.

Tom Hooper helped himself to a brace, while Tom Watkins was not be left out as he was also on target.

The game was essentially over by half-time as Presteigne led 5-0 at the break and went about putting the icing on the cake after the interval.

This game was something of a mirror image of the Reserves’ game at Carno Reserves in the Mid Wales League (South).

This fixture was initially in doubt as the league secretary Paul Worts informed the club on Saturday morning there was no match official available.

But one of the Carno officials is a qualified referee and he offered to take charge of the game, although the point was made that we didn’t have to take up this option.

Reserve-team boss Mark Weiland felt it would be better to play the game and so the Reserves travelled and for the first half this looked to be a very good decision.

The sides went in all square at 1-1 at the break with Alan Stocker on target for Presteigne Reserves.

Sadly the second half was to prove a different story and Carno Reserves apparently went through the gears to score six unanswered goals to run out 7-1 winners.
