Four matches beat the Boxing Day freeze

Spar Mid Wales League leaders Llansantffraid Village were left kicking their heels on Boxing Day after their top-of-the-table clash at Llanrhaeadr was one of five matches to be postponed.

Of the games that did survive, in addition to Presteigne St Andrews’ win at Hay St Marys, both Penparcau and Tywyn Bryncrug took the chance to close the gap on the leading sides.

Tywyn Bryncrug are now third in the table and within two points of the leaders after their 2-1 home win over struggling Dolgellau although apparently the visitors might have snatched a draw at the end.

Penparcau came from two goals down after only four minutes to beat visiting Bow Street 3-2 and so climbed two places to sixth in the table.

The scheduled matches at Carno, Dyffryn Banw, Newtown Reserves and Rhayader Town were all called off.

In the Mid Wales League (South) only one game survived, and the Penybont bragging rights went the way of United who were 2-0 winners over Athletic at the Racecourse.
