Not a great day for the home fans

Presteigne St Andrews FC’s players and management team will be licking their wounds today after they were put to the sword by old rivals Knighton Town in the Boxing Day clash at Llanandras Park.

Knighton ran out 10-1 winners – yes, if we were the Christmas turkey, then they were the sage and onion as we were well and truly stuffed in that one.

Work commitments meant I couldn’t get to the game – I know, I was probably the lucky one – but all the reports I have heard suggest Knighton looked what Knighton’s results this season suggested they are – a very decent side.

Yes, we were missing one or two due to injury, but every side gets injuries and it would be wrong to use this as an excuse.

We were 5-1 down at the break with Knighton even scoring our goal and the Robins then went on net five more after the interval.

However you wrap this up (last Christmas analogy, I promise) there is no getting away from the fact we were thumped by a far better side who, on that evidence, are likely to be playing Spar Mid Wales League, first-division football next season.

So, well done to Knighton – never let it be said we are bad losers! As for our boys, we need to regroup for the busy January programme that is just around the corner –  onwards and upwards.
