‘Weedo’ was again on target for the Reserves

Presteigne Reserves came away from Talgarth Town Reserves with a 3-1 victory in their Mid Wales League (South) game on Saturday, 31 January.

Player-manager Mark Weiland was among the goals and this is his version of events last Saturday afternoon.

“We started brightly and took the game to them but were having trouble in the final third,” said ‘Weedo’.

“We did get the breakthrough around the half-hour mark with the ball falling to me about 20 yards out – what I was doing up there I don’t know – and I had a bit of time to curl the ball round the keeper.

“I think the boys will agree it wasn’t a bad goal! [Ed’s note: …even though you do say so yourself!]

“We had the lead for about 10 minutes when a free kick wasn’t cleared properly and the ball made it out to the right to the Talgarth winger who finished neatly.

“We then went straight up the other end with a Shane Griffiths long ball who found the returning Duane Anning who scored with another tidy finish.

“Half-time came and I said to the boys that if we keep creating chances then we will score.

“We started well again and had most of the possession but didn’t do a lot with it.

“We knew we needed a third to wrap the game up as Talgarth were always a threat on the break.

“Finally, we did get a third goal after Duane Anning’s pass picked out substitute Tom Lewis who finished coolly by slotting the ball underneath the keeper.

“This meant we could all relax for last five to ten minutes and we played some decent football towards the end.

“I think the boys will agree we can play better but the most important thing was getting the three points and as it’s been so stop-start for us this season.

“It was a decent result on the road and there are loads of positive for us to take into the game against Llandrindod Reserves next week.”
