Presteigne Reserves came away from Llandrindod Wells Reserves with a fine 4-1 victory after what was surely one of their best performances of the season.

Player-manager Mark Weiland was delighted by his side’s showing and feels this should set them up well for the final league game of the season in which they will host Knighton Town Reserves on Friday, 1 May.

“We went 1-0 up when a Kai Dayas free kick was flicked on by Callum Mathews over the keeper,” said ‘Weedo’.

“We then scored a second goal – again through Callum – after a brilliant through ball from Duane Anning.

“We could have scored a few more as we hit the post and had numerous crosses into the box which we nearly got on the end off.

“They pulled one back from a corner after it was headed towards goal and took a slight deflection to take it away from goal keeper Liam Hill.

“The start of the second half was very even and Llan’dod then put us under a lot of pressure with 4-5 corners in a row.

“This led to them launching quite a few crosses into the box but we defended them really well.

“We then scored a third goal from a low and hard ball into the box and substitute Gareth Bull turned in with a neat finish.

“Our fourth goal was a bit unusual – Owen Williams hit a strike from outside the box which looked to be going in but deflected into the other corner off a defender so it didn’t matter!

“I said to the lads before the game that we needed a response after Sunday’s disappointing result in the Newcastle Cup final and we certainly got that.

“It sets us up nicely for the local derby against Knighton Reserves on Friday evening.

“Every player was excellent so I couldn’t pick a man of the match and we have got a great set of young players here.

“I would like to keep them all together for the next few years as I think we can do what Radnor Valley have done with keeping a young team playing together and win the league.”
