‘Weedo’ and his side were back to winning ways.

My thanks to the Reserve-team manager Mark Weiland for providing me with his thoughts on the 2-1 win over Llandrindod Wells Reserves at Llanandras Park on Friday, 4 September.

“It was funny old first half to be honest with neither side really playing well and chances were limited,” said ‘Weedo’.

“But Ben Miller had best chance of the half after he beat his man running into the box, went to place the ball but the keeper saved – I think Ben knew he should have scored.

“In the second half we must have had 70 percent possession but again we struggled in the final third to create something.

“Jack Davis then missed – what was a miss – the sort you put on a Christmas DVD of football funnies as he somehow put the ball over the bar in the six-yard box with nobody around him!

“I then said to Baz [assistant manager, Barry Williams] ‘I can see what’s going to happen here, they will sneak a goal after all our dominance’, which is precisely what happened.

“They had a corner which was cleared back out to the corner taker, who crossed back in to find a free head and the Llan’dod player buried it into the bottom corner.

“We then had to make changes and go for it and we equalised after great work from Spencer Morgan down the left-hand side which resulted in his low cross into the box being turned in by Duane Anning.

“We stayed with the attacking formation as I could see us scoring again which we did when the ball found its way to Merv Stevens who hit it on the half-volley over the keeper – it was a great finish.

“The final whistle came a couple of minutes later which was perfect.

The boys showed great character to score 2 in 5 minutes to win the game, although I think we knew that, on another day, we could have scored four or five, but that’s football.

“It was a big 3 points for us as we had lost three games on the bounce and that win over Carno first game of the season wasn’t meaning much.

“The ref picked Adam Crowe as man of the match which, to be honest, was my choice as well.

“This win will hopefully give us confidence to go on a decent run of games, the next of which is an away trip to Talgarth.”
