A disappointing home defeat for the Reserves

My thanks to the Reserves’  management team for forwarding their thoughts on last weekend’s disappointing home defeat by Builth Wells Reserves.

“Due to several senior players missing we had to change our squad just a little.

“Although the weather had been fair all week the pitch was still heavy and cut up from the last home game.

“We started off brightly with several spurned opportunities to take the lead with Durbs pretty much being a spectator.

“Builth then broke and were awarded a penalty for which seemed to be a fair shoulder to shoulder challenge in the box, which they converted to take the lead.

“We continued to push, but it looked like it was going to be one of those games where we couldn’t buy a goal.

“We came out in the second half with the desire to get back level and continued to push Builth back, who then hit us on the counter attack.

“Durbs blocked the shot which was heading over the line, but was cleared by Brighty, but unfortunately it fell to their striker who then finished from close range.

“The lads kept their heads up and pushed for a break and some neat work in the box by Josh Gardner set Ross up to finish from close range but this was saved by the in form Builth keeper.

“We finally had the breakthrough when Tim Office spotted the keeper off his line and struck a dipping shot from 30 yards.

“With our tails up we pushed for an equaliser late on, and thought we were on level terms when a Tom Hooper free kick was met by a bullet header from Ross at the back post, only for it to hit the post and fall into the beaten keeper’s hands.

“In the last few minutes a good penalty shout was overlooked by the young and inconsistent ref.”
