More sad news ahead of the start of the Spar League season

Waterloo Rovers have confirmed that, sadly, they are having to withdraw from the Spar Mid Wales League, first division.

As with both Forden United and Bettws, the Welshpool-based club has cited the departure of a number of players as being the main reason for their decision.

Despite their best efforts, they have been unable to find enough replacement players to be able to field a sustainable squad and so have informed the Spar Mid Wales League secretary Phil Woosnam of their intention to withdraw.

Waterloo Rovers were a first division club and so, unlike the previous two withdrawals, this will not impact on us directly.

But it is always sad when a club feels they can’t continue due to a lack of players and I am sure everyone connected with Presteigne St Andrews FC will be hoping Waterloo can regroup and come back stronger in the future.

Three clubs pulling out of the league before the start of the season is surely a major concern to those running the league and it’s to be hoped they take a long, hard look at some of the main factors behind the reasons players feel they can no longer commit to playing for what are well established clubs.

League secretary Phil Woosnam says that, in the light of this announcement, he plans to reorganise the first division fixtures, but Radnor Valley will now be without a game on the opening day.
