Presteigne St Andrews FC’s manager Tom Ammonds has been reflecting on what was a highly successful weekend for both the first team and the Reserves.

Tom Crichton and Ioan Hughes each scored twice for the Reserves, with an own goal and a Gareth Bull strike accounting for the other two goals as they beat Llandrindod Wells Reserves 6-1 at Llanandras Park on Friday, 16 September.

Then, the first team made it a really good weekend all round for the club on Saturday, 17 September when they came away from Dyffryn Banw with all three points courtesy of a 3-1 success.

“It’s a tough place to go, Dyffryn Banw – the facilities are what they are – but you have got to go there with the mindset of doing things properly and we did that again,” said Tom.

But things didn’t start well for ‘Ammo’ and his squad as they fell behind inside 90 seconds – in fact, the club President, Edward Traylor reportedly arrived for the game two minutes late to discover we were a goal down.

“It’s not great, because we haven’t really started any of the games well so far,” he said.

“This was a prime example as we went 1-0 down within two minutes, although you have got a lot of time to get back into the game.

“We got ourselves back into the game and they didn’t really create anything else, to be honest, but you’ve still got to go there and do the job,” he added.

It is now on to Wednesday, 21 September and a Radnorshire Cup tie against Llandrindod Wells at the Broadway.

Tom says he has some selection issues as players such as Kai Dayas and Kieran Lusher are at Hartpury College and so are not likely to make the trip back for a midweek game.

Meanwhile, Tom says he’s hugely encouraged by the way the Reserves have started lift in the Mid Wales League (South).

“Llan’dod had a couple of first-teamers in their side as well but, to be honest, the Reserves aren’t looking like they are going to lose a game at the moment,” he said.

“They have had two smashing results, scoring six in games against Newcastle and Llan’dod so that’s a goal difference of plus-eleven in two games, so, ideal.”
