Presteigne St Andrews FC slipped to a 2-1 home defeat by Abermule in their Spar Mid Wales League fixture at Llanandras Park on Saturday, 28 January.

But there was better news for the Reserves who came away from their Mid Wales League (South) game at Penybont Reserves with a 3-0 victory.

The first team were indebted to a fine display by goalkeeper Simon Hamer who made a string of fine saves to help keep his side in the game.

Beaten after 20 minutes, Simon then helped keep Abermule at bay until late in the game when they netted their second goal of the game.

Matt Strangwood scored Presteigne’s goal from the penalty spot late on, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Montgomeryshire side from completing a league double over Tom Ammonds’ side.

But the Reserves produced one of their best results of recent weeks in coming away from the Racecourse with a 3-0 victory.

The win lifted Dale Tomkins’ side to fourth in the table, six points off pole position which is currently occupied by Talgarth Town.

Other results went the Reserves’ way as both Brecon Northcote and Hay St Mary’s Reserves were beaten in their matches.

The Reserves will return to action on Wednesday, 1 February when they will host Builth Wells Reserves in a 7.30pm kick off at Llanandras Park.
