‘Still work to be done’ was Shaun’s message after this one

Presteigne St Andrews FC were beaten 4-0 in their latest pre-season match in which they took on Lads Club on Hereford’s Widemarsh Common on Wednesday, 19 July.

My thanks to manager Shaun Harris for sending me his thoughts on the match.

“I was fairly happy with the result as we had no goalkeeper available for the game,” he said.

“We also had most of our back line missing along with a few other key forwards,” he added.

While this was disappointing it was, perhaps, more understandable than usual in that we had originally been due to play at home on the Tuesday night but this game was hastily rearranged as a replacement fixture and so presumably some players were unable to make it.

“After we went 2-0 down in the opening 15 minutes, we could have collapsed,” said Shaun.

“We went in 3-0 down at half-time 3-0 but we then changed the system a little at the break which helped give us a bit more width.

“Having lost yet another two defenders during the first half we showed great character to finish the game with a respectable scoreline.

“But it again underlined there is lots of work still to be done on the pitch.

“Players must quickly realise the season is fast approaching and match fitness levels are still some way short of what I am expecting from them.”
