A draw and a defeat from a busy weekend for Shaun and his side

Presteigne St Andrews FC had something of a mixed weekend in which they picked up a point from a league game and exited the Radnorshire Cup.

Friday, 20 October saw Shaun Harris’ side take on Brecon Northcote in a Spar Mid Wales League, second division game at Llanandras Park.

Northcote took a first-half lead in this one, but Presteigne then turned things around before half-time.

First, Euan Rhodes was on target before Matt Strangwood put Presteigne in front.

But Brecon Northcote were not be denied their point and they levelled the game around 15 minutes from time.

Those with whom I have spoken say a draw was probably about right on the night and it’s another point on the board for the first team.

The weekend’s results leave us second in the table but we are six points behind the leaders, Builth Wells, who have a game in hand on us.

Builth beat the bottom side Penybont United 4-1 at Lant Field to make it seven wins from eight league games so far this season.

Sunday, 22 October saw the first team head to Newbridge for the second round of the Radnorshire Cup.

This was to prove something of a frustrating afternoon for the squad and travelling supporters as Presteigne reportedly created plenty of chances in the game but were unable to take them.

Just when it seemed as though the match was heading for a 0-0 draw, Newbridge scored a somewhat fortuitous winner with around five minutes to go.

So, a 1-0 exit from the County Cup at the quarter-final stage, but the squad will probably be left thinking about what might have been.
