Well, here we go – Saturday will soon be here again and so football will be top of the agenda, assuming the frost stays away.

Presteigne St Andrews FC are due to host Builth Wells in a good old-fashioned derby game at Llanandras Park on Saturday, 24 February.

After a couple of postponements in recent weeks, this will be the first time the first team has kicked a ball in anger since the away trip to Newbridge-on-Wye on 3 February.

As for Builth Wells, they have been going well this season and they are second in the table.

Their away form in the league is especially impressive in that they have won all seven of their Spar Mid Wales League, second division games on the road so far this season.

Manager Shaun Harris is again forced into changes but says he’s confident those coming into the squad will give a good account of themselves.

“We are without Matt Strangwood for the next few weeks due to work commitments,” said Shaun.

“Then, we won’t have Ioan, while Rambo [Anthony Vernalls] is likely to be out for the season and Simon Hamer is away.

“This weekend’s squad is likely to be one of the youngest we have put out this season in terms of the average age.

“Louis Gilpin and Sam Roberts retain their places in the squad having been training well since turning 16 a few months ago.

“I’m feeling really positive about the young lads coming through at Presteigne at present and am hoping it will continue.”

As for the Reserves, they, too, will face a tough game in which they will head to Llanidloes Town Reserves.

Mark Weiland and Alan Stocker’s side has been going well in recent weeks, but the Daffs’ second string side currently tops the Mid Wales League (South) table.

They are three points clear of Rhayader Town who are surely odds-on favourites to take the title as they have three games in hand over Llanidloes Town Reserves.

The first-team game at Llanandras Park is due to kick off at 2.30pm and the admission prices will be the usual £3.00 for adults, £1.50 for senior citizens and £1.00 for youngsters under the age of 16.
