The Reserves were unlucky to come home empty-handed

Presteigne Reserves were beaten 3-2 at Rhayader Town in their Mid Wales League (South) fixture at Rhayader Town on Wednesday, 7 March.

But the Ressies’ management team of Mark Weiland and Alan Stocker would have come away from the Weirglodd disappointed their side had nothing to show for their efforts as the general view was they deserved something – and that was the view of both management teams.

These were  the post-match views of Mark Weiland – shamelessly lifted from Facebook:

“It was a great effort by the lads up at Rhayader – we lost 3-2 but were very unlucky to do so.

“We went 1-0 down but Tom Lewis equalised with a neat finish and then Sam Roberts gave us the lead after a great passing move.

“15 minutes into the second half we thought we had scored a third but the referee ruled it out for offside even though the Rhayader linesman didn’t have his flag up and said the goal was onside.

“Rhayader then scored from an over-hit cross and went on to win it with a deflected free kick.

“It was a frustrating end but a brilliant performance against a Rhayader team who have a 100% record in the league but whose manager said the better side had lost.

“It was great to see Sam, Fin and Louis – who are all still only 16 – playing and they will all have great futures at Presteigne.”
