Shaun felt there was plenty to build on from this opening-day showing

My thanks to first-team manager Shaun Harris who has dropped me a line with a few thoughts on the side’s showing in the 2-2 draw at Machynlleth on Saturday, 11 August.

“Overall this was a good point,” said Shaun.

“We didn’t start well – maybe due to the long drive and late arrival.

“In the first 20 minutes we really struggled to get a foothold in the game.

“Our passing was off and there were too many silly errors which led to goals.

“From my point of view both Machynlleth goals were avoidable, although I can’t deny Mach were far better early on.

“We also gave away a soft penalty which was saved by Fin our stand-in keeper for the day.

“Having spoken to the lads at half-time I thought nerves and tension were a big part of the problem.

“We want the lads to play football and enjoy the game and this was key to the change in confidence and performance second half.

“I have a new-look side this year and I believe they want to win and have a good mentality to keep going.

“The squad is smaller than last year but overall I feel we’re stronger.

“Matt Venables – who was making his competitive debut was Man-of-the-Match, while big credit goes to young Sam Roberts for his wonder goal

“He played through the pain of a dead leg to to rescue a point deep in added on time.”

The first team will be back in action on Wednesday, 15 August when they will host Brecon Northcote at Llanandras Park (Kick Off: 7.30pm).
