Frustrating weekend all round

A tough day all round for our sides

Sadly it wasn’t to be for either Presteigne St Andrews or Presteigne Reserves as both sides were beaten in their respective matches on Saturday, 17 August.

The first team will probably feel that, on another day, they might easily have taken something from Abermule but ended up going down 5-3 in their MMP with Norman Lloyd, second-division fixture.

This was all the more disappointing as Terry Williams’ side was two goals to the good early on thanks to strikes from Lewis Jones and Harry Clay.

But Abermule were level before the break and then went on to score three more times after it before an own goal proved something of a late consolation for the first team.

As for the Reserves, well, the visit of Brecon Corries to Llanandras Park will probably have left most of those of a Presteigne persuasion asking: ‘What are they doing in the Mid Wales League (South)?’

At least one person I have spoken to has told me they don’t ever remember seeing a better side at this level of football and it showed as the Corries were to put 16 unanswered goals past the Reserves.

But, on the evidence of Saturday, there will be more than one side that will take a hammering from a Brecon Corries side that had to start at the foot of the pyramid but which, in reality, should be playing at least one level higher.

But well done to Bryn Roberts for calling in a few favours so that the Reserves could at least fulfil the fixture – it would have been easy to say we couldn’t raise a side and just take the hit of points lost and fine to be paid.

I am sure the Reserves will put this one behind them and come back in the knowledge that they are not going to run into that calibre of opposition every week.
