Saturday’s first-team game in some doubt

Presteigne St Andrews FC officials report they have concerns over the state of the Llanandras Park pitch ahead of the scheduled MMP with Norman Lloyd League, second division game against Abermule on Saturday, 22 February.

A cursory inspection of the pitch on Thursday evening revealed standing water on parts of the playing surface so it was looking decidedly unlikely at that stage.

But, with a drier period forecast for today and tonight, there is still a chance although the biggest problem will be just where that water is going to go.

While the drainage system on the ground is, by and large, pretty effective, there is a danger that we’ve had so much rain and the river levels are so high that the water is backed up in the drains.

The attached photos were taken on Thursday evening and show the extent of the problems we are facing.

But, hope springs eternal – although I am not sure ‘springs’ is necessarily the right word to use in this instance.

As for the Reserves, they are due to head to Newcastle for a Mid Wales League (South) fixture and we have heard nothing from that corner of south Shropshire as yet to suggest they have any particular problems with their pitch.

So, just to reiterate, both games are currently ‘on’ but please keep checking back to the site in case that situation alters.

Should the first team game go ahead then the kick off will be at 2.15pm with the admission prices £3.00 for adults; £1.50 for senior citizens and £1.00 for youngsters under the age of 16.
