Bow Street at Llanandras Park this weekend

A tough day on the road

It’s Welsh Cup action on Saturday

In this strangest of starts to a season, it is back to FAW Cup action this weekend for Presteigne St Andrews FC when they will host Bow Street in a second round qualifying tie at Llanandras Park on Saturday, 24 July (Kick Off: 2.00pm).

Radnor Valley’s unfortunate bout of Covid or, at least Covid ‘pings’ meant Presteigne were awarded a walkover in the first-round qualifying tie so this will be the first real sortie into this season’s competition.

Bow Street also had a bye in the last round – but that was nothing to do with Covid as they were among a number of clubs across Wales afforded a straight route into the second-round qualifying without kicking a ball.

But there is no doubt this weekend’s visitors will prove a very stiff test for John Haycox’s side.

They are part of the new Ardal (Region) North East in the latest reincarnation of the league structures within Wales and are due to open their league season next Saturday (31 July) with a home game against Kerry at Cae Pod.

Their pre-season form has seen them produce some impressive results – including a 9-0 victory over Aberaeron so they certainly know where the goal is.

But Presteigne St Andrews FC will certainly take heart from their early-season showings against both Radnor Valley in the FAW Trophy and Bishops Castle in this week’s friendly which finished in a 3-3 draw.

So, if you are at a loose end on Saturday afternoon, get down to Llanandras Park and get behind our young side – I am sure they would appreciate it.
