Presteigne St Andrews FC’s new manager Barry Williams is on the look out for potential pre-season friendly opponents as he begins to build towards the 2010-11 Spar Mid Wales League season.

One match has already been arranged but Barry told presteignestandrewsfc.co.uk that he is keen to fix up other games.

“We already have one friendly sorted for the moment – that is on Saturday 7 August when we will take on Lads Club at Llanandras Park,” he said.

“They will also bring a Reserve side up on that day to take on our Reserves so that should give everyone a chance to prove what they can do and will also give us the chance to take a look at all the players.

“Clearly though we are on the look out for other games and, while we will be putting out feelers of our own, if anyone is interested in a warm-up game against Presteigne if they email the website then I will get in touch with them,” he added.

There is also a chance Presteigne could be fielding a side in the Ludlow Hospital Cup which is normally run as a pre-season competition, but this is yet to be confirmed.

Barry and his assistant Phil Parker have spent much of the last week contacting members of last season’s first-team squad and they say they have been encouraged by the reaction they have had to their appointment.

“We have spoken to or left messages with all of the members of last year’s squad to let them know what is going on,” he said.

“We got a good response of most of  the lads but – as with every season – it is hard to say whether they will stay or not at moment.

“But all of them will be invited to pre-season training – we haven’t yet set a date for that, but we will let the website know as soon as those arrangements are in place,” he added.
