Presteigne St Andrews bowed out of the Radnorshire Cup at the second-round stage when they were beaten 3-1 at Llandrindod Wells on Wednesday evening.

After the encouraging showing at Aberystwyth University on Saturday, manager Barry Williams would have been looking to his side to kick on but they found themselves two goals down in the first 10 minutes.

They rallied and got themselves back into the game on the half-hour mark when Joel Layton combined well with Jack Bowen to provide a cross from which Callum Matthews netted with a neat header.

But hopes of a Presteigne revival proved short-lived as Llandrindod restored their two-goal advantage five minutes later and went on to close out the game.

Presteigne’s miserable night was completed in the final minute when Bobby Bird was sent off – allegedly for stamping on an opponent, but early reports suggest that followers of both teams felt it was a very harsh decision as Bobby appeared to be trying to get out of the way.

The draw for the semi-finals of the Radnorshire Cup was made at the match and that paired Hay St Marys with Builth Wells while Rhayader Town will take on Llandrindod Wells.

A full match report will appear on the site at some stage on Thursday 28 October.
