Frozen pitches at both Presteigne and Builth Wells

Presteigne St Andrews FC’s players will again be at a loose end on a Saturday afternoon after both scheduled matches were called off following pitch inspections.

As reported earlier, the first-team game at Carno subject to an 11.00am inspection and it took little more than a cursory look at the playing surface before the inevitable decision was taken to call off the match.

The pitch was pretty well frozen all over and some areas – such as the goalmouths and the centre circle were very solid so the surprisingly large gathering who turned out for the inspection were in agreement with chairman Alan Randell when he opted to call off the match.

The Spar League will now arrange a new date for the League Cup tie but it may well be that the first-round ties are again rescheduled for a Saturday en bloc as there were reportedly a host of postponements across the area.

Meanwhile, the Reserves match at Builth Wells had sadly gone the same way – another game called off for Andy Crowe’s side who have now had eight of their last 10 scheduled matches postponed.

Don’t book anything up for the early weeks of May as – at this rate – there will still be plenty of football to be played.
