Reserves in Penybont Cup action tonight

Action from the league meeting against Radnor Valley at Llanandras Park

In what is proving a busy week down at Llanandras Park, Presteigne Reserves will this evening take on Radnor Valley in the quarter-final of the Penybont Cup.

This game was originally due to be played at Radnor, but the wintry weather of a couple of months ago has led to the inevitable fixture congestion so the game has been switched to Llanandras Park in an effort to ease the pressure on both clubs.

Presteigne Reserves’ boss Andy Crowe was still putting the finishing touches to his squad when I spoke to him yesterday but he was mindful that some players are facing a lot of games in a short space of time.

“When you consider that some of our lads could easily have played for the first team, the Reserves and the Under 18s in the last week or so, we have to be careful they are not overplayed,” he said.

“We will want to put out as competitive a team as we possibly can, but there are still a lot of games to come and we don’t want to risk injuries to key players.

“Radnor will be very competitive in this one, but I am sure we can put out a squad that will give a good account of itself,” he added.

While a top-five finish in the Mid Wales League (South) still very much a target for Andy Crowe and his squad, he is well aware that a couple of cup final appearances towards the end of the season would give the squad the chance to put a bit of gloss on proceedings.

They are already guaranteed one cup final appearance – that will be in the Radnor Valley Cup in which the Reserves will take on Newbridge Reserves on Sunday 10 April.

Tonight’s game against Radnor Valley will kick off at 7.30pm and admission charges will be £2.00 for adults and £1.00 for senior citizens and youngsters under the age of 16.
