Under 18s match tonight called off

Presteigne St Andrews FC
Game off at Llanandras Park

Presteigne St Andrews FC’s Under 18s’ Giantkillers Cup match against Hinton. scheduled for this evening – Thursday, 2 February – has been called off.

Club chairman Alan Randell took an early-morning look at the Llanandras Park playing surface and confirmed the seemingly inevitable.

“The ground is rock hard and there is no way it is going to thaw out in time for tonight’s game so it made sense to make an early call on this one especially as Hinton had to come up from Hereford,” he said.

“There is still plenty of time left for the Under 18s as there are only seven clubs in their league so there is ample room in the fixture programme to fit in the game.

“I was surprised by just how frozen parts of the pitch were and – while Saturday’s game against Talgarth is still very much ‘on’ at the moment – given the predicted overnight temperatures, that has to in some some doubt,” he added.

The freezing temperatures also put paid to a planned friendly match for the first team on Wednesday evening in which they were due to take on Lads Club at Hereford Leisure Centre.

Manager Trevor Gummer had been hoping to take a look at a couple of potential signings during that match but the game was called off at around 5.30pm.
