The Reserves will be out to try to emulate the squad of two seasons ago

Presteigne Reserves will tonight hope to upset the odds when they will take on Newcastle in their Alfred Sparey Cup semi-final tie at Llananadras Park.

Club chairman Alan Randell has confirmed he has been down to take a look at the pitch and – as things stand – the game will go ahead as scheduled.

But he has warned that were we to get yet another downpour of biblical proportions between now and kick off time then it might necessitate another look at the pitch.

Assuming the game does go ahead, then it is promising to be a very tough match for Stuart Skidmore’s squad as Newcastle have been very much the team of the season in the Mid Wales League (South).

The won the league by a convincing margin, but will not be allowed to move up to the Spar Mid Wales League as they are based in England.

In the two league meetings between the sides, the south Shropshire club were convincing winners on both occasions – they won 5-0 at Llanandras Park and then 4-0 at Newcastle in the return.

The winners of tonight’s tie will take on either Llandrindod Wells Reserves or Shobdon in the final – they are due to play their semi-final tie on Sunday, 6 May.

Tonight’s game at Llanandras Park is due to kick off at 7.30pm and admission prices will be as per the Mid Wales League (South) fixtures – so, £2.00 for adults and £1.00 for senior citizens and youngsters under the age of 16.
