‘Weedo’ will be looking for the Reserves to come up with a shock result

Presteigne St Andrews FC will open their Central Wales Cup campaign on Saturday, 1 November when they will take on Llangedwyn at Llanandras Park (kick off 2.00pm).

Llangedwyn play their league football in the Montgomeryshire Amateur League, first division.

They have not made the finest of starts to the league campaign as they are yet to win a league game in seven attempts so far this season.

They haven’t played a league game since 11 October when they were beaten 6-2 at Caersws Reserves, while they also went down 5-2 at home to Waterloo Rovers Reserves on the previous Saturday.

Presteigne’s boss Jamie Allen will be keen for his side to build last Saturday’s encouraging 4-3 Spar Mid Wales League, second-division victory at Churchstoke.

While the Llanandras Park side will start as favourites for the tie, they will be taking nothing for granted.

Meanwhile, Mark Weiland and his Reserve squad will be on the road again this weekend when they will head to Carno Reserves for a Mid Wales League (South) fixture.

There is no doubt the Reserves could do with a boost as it has been a struggle so far this season.

Last weekend’s 5-1 home defeat by Radnor Valley was hardly the best preparation for what is promising to be a difficult trip to that particular corner of Montgomeryshire.

Carno Reserves started the season very well and in late September they underlined their title credentials when they thumped visiting Builth Wells Reserves 9-0.

But since then the wheel has somewhat come off the Carno cart as they were beaten by title rivals Hay St Mary’s before going down 4-3 at home to Radnor Valley.

In their most recent league outing last week they were held to a 2-2 draw by visiting Newcastle so here’s hoping ‘Weedo’s’ side are catching Carno Reserves at a good time.

A reminder the first-team game against Llangedwyn will kick off at 2.00pm and admission prices will be the usual £2.50 for adult, £1.50 for senior citizens and £1.00 for youngsters under the age of 16.
