Presteigne St Andrews FC are saddened to hear of the passing of Mike Stringer after a recent illness.
Mike was initially taken ill when on a cruise and was hospitalised for a number of weeks in Valencia in Spain before being flown home where he was then being treated in the County Hospital in Hereford.
Mike was an active and hard-working member of the committee for a substantial period, while he was also manager of the club’s junior teams while his son, Paul, was progressing through the age groups.
He was also manager of the Reserves for a couple of seasons and, as George Lancett rightly puts it, Mike ‘could always be relied on for help and a witty comment’ – a lot of us will be able to relate to that.
Everyone at the club would like to offer our sympathies to Ruth, Paul and Sarah as well as members of the extended family.
Club chairman, Andy Crowe has confirmed there will be a minute’s silence in memory of Mike ahead of the next home match which will be the first-team game against Four Crosses on Saturday, 12 December.
We will publish details of Mike’s funeral as soon as that information is confirmed.
