Reserves slip to 3-2 defeat at Rhayader

Action from last season's home match against Rhayader Reserves

Presteigne Reserves slipped to a narrow 3-2 defeat at Rhayader Town Reserves in their Tuesday-night Mid Wales League (South) clash at the Weirglodd.

Stuart Skidmore’s side more than played their part in this one and deservedly led 1-0 at the interval, courtesy of a fine goal from Christian Roberts that involved good work from Stuart Millichamp.

Rhayader levelled after the interval and then went ahead through a cracking 25-yard free kick that gave Daryl Gower in the Presteigne goal no chance.

Back came the Reserves, though, and Duane Anning was on target to make it 2-2, before Rhayader’s second string netted what proved to be the winner.

Daryl Gower saved a penalty for Presteigne, while the game ended in controversial circumstances when Presteigne felt they had strong claims for a penalty of their own in stoppage time, only for referee Andy Mills to wave them away.

My source at the Weirglodd felt the Reserves deserved a draw out of this – although he admitted to his own ‘Arsene Wenger moment’ over the penalty claim at the death, saying he was down the other end, so ‘did not see the incident’.

I will hopefully speak to or text Stuart tomorrow to get his side of the story and it is hoped to have a match report up online on the Reserves’ page at some stage on either Wednesday or Thursday.
