Groundhoppers Day on Saturday

The Groundhoppers are here on Saturday for a 4.30pm kick off against Rhosgoch

Presteigne St Andrews Football Club is delighted to be hosting one leg of the Groundhoppers Mid Wales tour this coming weekend.

For the benefit of those who don’t know, the Groundhoppers are a group of serious football fans who love to tour around non-league grounds taking in new leagues and ground around the country.

They will spend the weekend taking in games around the Spar Mid Wales League and Mid Wales League (South) and, as part of this, they will be visiting Llanandras Park for the home game against Rhosgoch Rangers on Saturday, 25 August.

Regular fans are asked to note there will be a number of changes to the usual arrangments, not least in the kick off time as this will be at 4.30pm.

Presteigne’s chairman Alan Randell explains that many of the arrangements for Saturday’s game are laid down by the Groundhoppers themselves and is asking regular fans to bear this in mind.

“The Groundhoppers usually bring a large group of fans to the game, so this ought to help swell the club’s coffers, but there are stipulations over just what they expect – this is fair enough, after all, ‘he who pays the piper calls the tune’ to a degree,” he said.

“Among these stipulations is the admission for Saturday’s game – this will be £3.00 for all adults – there will be no concessions for this game for senior citizens.

“Young supporters under the age of 16 will still gain admission for £1.00, while there will be programmes on sale inside the ground – these will be priced at £1.00.

Alan is also at pains to explain there will be changes to the usual parking arrangements for a match day at Llanandras Park.

“There will be  no general parking on the ground for spectators on Saturday afternoon as space – which is always tight – will be at a premium for this game,” he said.

“But we have arranged for extra parking on the school playground at the John Beddoes School which is about a 10-minute walk from the ground.

“There is also parking at East Radnor Leisure Centre, but we would ask everyone planning on attending the game to show consideration to the residents of Clatterbrune estate.

“We really don’t want to upset our neighbours, so please don’t park on the estate, and certainly not across the end of anyone’s drive.

“The only people who will be able to park on the ground are disabled supporters, players, match officials and the coaches bringing the Groundhoppers to the game as they have to get away quickly at the end to make the kick off for the next game at Hay St Marys,” he added.

While we appreciate the arrangements for this match will make life more difficult for some regular supporters, Presteigne St Andrews FC would ask for your help and cooperation on this one occasion as it should hopefully be an enjoyable and profitable day for the club.
