Round up of the Groundhoppers weekend action

Presteigne St Andrews FCLlanidloes Town lead the way in the Spar Mid Wales League first division on goal difference from Four Crosses as both sides have three wins from their opening three matches.

The Daffs substantially enhanced their ‘goals-for’ tally on Friday night when they enjoyed a 7-0 home win over Waterloo Rovers. Four Crosses stayed on their heels though with a 5-1 home victory over Dolgellau.

Newbridge also scored five – they added to Dyffryn Banw’s early-season problems with a 5-0 victory at ‘Banw’ while Aberaeron are showing signs of settling in well after promotion as they win 2-0 at Carno.

In Saturday’s other first division match, the Montgomeryshire derby between Berriew and Montgomery Town finished goal-less.

Sunday’s first-division match saw Tywyn Bryncrug ease past visiting Bow Street 4-0 – that win has Tywyn up to fourth in the table – while the Groundhoppers factor meant there were three more division one games on Monday.

Builth Wells were 3-2 winners at Dyffryn Banw – that defeat means Banw are still searching for their first point after four games.  Carno are in the same boat after they went down 2-1 at Dolgellau.  The day’s other match saw Llansantffraid Village run out 5-3 winners at Welshpool Town.

Hay St Marys continue to set the pace in division two as a crowd of 317 watched them beat visiting Talgarth Town 3-2 as part of the Groundhoppers tour.

Llanfair United and Llandrindod Wells are the only other sides that still have 100 percent records
– Llanfair backed up their opening-day win over Rhosgoch Rangers with a 4-1 home win over Abermule in the Friday-night Groundhoppers game – 261 watched that one.

Llandrindod Wells opened their season by beating Llanfyllin Town 4-0 at The Broadway while 260 turned out at Llanandras Park where Presteigne St Andrews and Rhosgoch shared 10 goals in a thrilling game.

The top Groundhoppers attendance of the weekend came at Machynlleth where 347 turned out to watch their game against Kerry. This was the only good news for Machynlleth, though, as Kerry thumped them 4-0 on their own ground.

If Presteigne St Andrews and Rhosgoch thought they were going to have the highest scoring game of the weekend then think again – Aberdyfi beat visiting Bont 6-5 in their game!
