Games off today and tomorrow

This is going to come as a surprise to nobody, but Presteigne St Andrews FC’s scheduled home match against Abermule on Saturday, 23 March has been called off.

To be honest, we could have made this call last night, but the rule is that you have to give it every chance but as soon as the chairman stuck his nose above the duvet this morning it reportedly became very apparent there was no chance of the game being on.

You will note I used the word ‘reportedly’ in that sentence – trust me, I wasn’t there at that particular moment – I am all in favour of the committee working closely together, but not that closely…

Also postponed is tomorrow afternoon’s Alfred Sparey Cup semi-final tie between Presteigne Reserves and Brecon Town – again, no great surprise there.

It is looking increasingly likely that the Sparey Cup ties will have to be rearranged for midweek matches as we are running out of available Sundays.

We will bring you more information on that as soon as we have it, but you will appreciate this involves a fair bit of negotiations with the teams involved.

Finally, remember the race night will be ahead – the going in the Royal British Legion Club has been largely unaffected by the weather and the beer is said to be ‘plentiful’.

The race night is due to get underway at 7.30pm while there is also entertainment scheduled for afterwards so, if you are in need of a night out to make up for the lack of football, then the Legion is the place to be.
