Llanandras Park is still snowbound

Presteigne St Andrews FC’s chairman Alan Randell has confirmed the Reserves’ scheduled home match against Knighton Town Reserves on Saturday, 30 March has been postponed.

To be honest, this won’t have come as a great surprise to too many – especially those who were down at Llanandras Park for the quiz on Thursday evening as it was pretty obvious we were going to need a pretty dramatic thaw.

“There is some grass starting to poke through the snow in places – in the goalmouth at the sewage works end and in the one corner,” said Alan.

“But there is still three inches of snow over much of the pitch while it has drifted a bit at the Lugg View end, so there was no way we were going to get a game on there on Saturday,” he added.

The first team are due to be at home to Llanfyllin Town on Bank Holiday Monday, 1 April, but that game, too, has to be in some doubt.

“Obviously we haven’t made a final decision on that one as yet as it is too early, but you would have to imagine there isn’t too much chance of that one going ahead,” admitted Alan.

“Even if we do get a fairly rapid thaw over the weekend, which is by no means certain, then we would end up with waterlogging problems on Monday.

“I am planning on taking a look again over the weekend and we will get a local referee in to take a look if we think there is any chance at all.

“But the overnight temperatures are due to drop below freezing again and so, as things stand, we would have to say it is looking extremely doubtful,” he added.

Meanwhile, the first team are due to head to Forest Road tomorrow – Saturday, 30 March – to take on Hay St Marys in a Spar Mid Wales League, second division game.

Early reports suggest Hay-on-Wye might well have missed the worst of the snow, but much will depend on how much frost they get overnight.

As things stand, we are assuming the game will go ahead as planned as we haven’t heard anything to suggest otherwise, but it might well be worth check back with the website on Saturday morning.
