Tim wants more of a cutting edge

As they prepare for the home Spar Mid Wales League home match against Aberystwyth Resrves on Saturday 5 December, the first-team manager Tim Broome has been reflecting on his first four months in the job.

Tim feels there has been definite progress although it was not easy as circumstances meant he had to hit the ground running when taking over at the start of the season.

“In a short amount of time I have been able to get a talented bunch of young local individuals, some of whom have played at a higher standard,” he said.

“Because of this people have assumed that we will be pushing for the league title.

“Our results show that there is a still of work to do, but we are working hard to improve and it is the old cliche of ‘one game at a time’,” he added.

Tim acknowledges there has been a high turnover of players during his first few months in charge but says this will probably continue for some time yet as he looks to get the balance of the squad right.

He says much of it is about getting the message out there to potential targets so they feel they want to be a part of what he is planning at Llanandras Park.

“There are still a few local players who are playing at other clubs who hopefully will be attracted back to Presteigne when they see the direction I want the club to go,” he explained.

“The club has a lot of talented teenagers throughout all the teams, some of whom have already tasted Spar football and that bodes well for a sustainable first team,” he added.

Given the overall standard of the Spar Mid Wales League, Tim feels sure there are plenty more twists and turns to come in the season, but he is confident the squad has what it takes to be challenging at the top end of the table.

“There is no easy game in this league as every team is capable of taking points off each other,” he said.

“Our team is young – the majority of the players are around 22 – and we play nice football but we have to learn to be effective not just pretty,” he added.

There will be a preview of the game against Aberystwyth Reserves on the first team page of the site at some stage on Friday 4 December.
