A home defeat under the lights

Presteigne Reserves’ hopes of a run into the latter stages of the club’s own Alfred Sparey Cup were dashed when they came up short in a penalty shoot out against Radnor Valley on Tuesday, 26 November.

Presteigne were playing catch up for the majority of the initial 90 minutes as Radnor started the brighter and forged a 2-0 lead.

But Mark Weiland’s side eventually started to find some form and reduced the arrears, before scoring a dramatic equaliser in the dying seconds of the game – in fact, the referee only allowed Radnor to take the kick off after the goal before blowing the final whistle.

So, it was into extra time and this time it was Presteigne Reserves who took the lead – at 3-2 up perhaps now they could go on and close out the game?

But Radnor Valley were having none of it and they hit back to level the game at 3-3 at the end of the extra half-hour and so it was down to a penalty shoot-out.

Sadly, Presteigne Reserves missed two of their spot kicks so Radnor Valley move through to the last four of the competition.

I have no details as yet regarding scorers or any other details, but will be chasing up the manager later in the day.

As soon as I get these, I will add them into the report, but congratulations to what I am told was a largely young Radnor Valley side who worked hard for their win.
