League Cup exit, but Brighty makes his mark

A disappointing start for the first team at Llanandras Park

It was good to finally have some football to watch

Presteigne St Andrews FC’s fisrt team bowed out of the Spar Mid Wales League Cup when they were beaten 5-2 at Machynlleth on Saturday, 1 March.

Given this was the first outing for Danny Ives’ squad in more than two months, perhaps it wasn’t surprising that they found the going tough, not least because ‘Mach’ are clearly a good side at this level.

Early reports suggest that Chris Jones netted both the goals for Presteigne – I am assuming my source is right, but if not then I will change it later.

As for the Reserves, they were indebted to ‘super sub’ John Bright who came off the bench to net the only goal of the game in their Mid Wales League (South) game against Sennybridge at Llanandras Park.

This was an impressive win as the ‘bridge had not been beaten in the league this season before they ventured into ‘Stadio Llanandras’ and came up a Ressies that must be brimming with confidence.

This victory lifted the Reserves up to fifth place in the table as they leapfrogged Sennybridge.

I will endeavour to find out a few more details from the respective managers at some stage early next week and will post the results of those conversations online.

But, in the meantime, well done to the Reserves on their win, while I am sure the first team will be better for having actually played a game.
