Rhosgoch take Otway honours

Rhosgoch Rangers are the new holders of the Otway Cup after the beat the holders, Hay St Marys in a thrilling final at Llanandras Park on Sunday, 4 May.

Rhos seemed to have things pretty much under control at half-time when they led 3-1, courtesy of a couple of goals from Joe Price and one from Matt Croose.

But Hay were never going to relinquish their crown easily and they hit back after the break to score twice to tie things up at 3-3.

They also rattled the woodwork on a number of occasions as they pushed hard for the winner, but the decisive goal was to go the way of Rhosgoch when Joe Price completed his hat-trick with around 10 minutes remaining.

Our thanks to Karl Chapman of KC Electrical Services for his generous sponsorship of the competition this season and to Andy Weale who presented the trophies on Karl’s behalf.

Thanks also to Idris and Barbara Gwilt for their kind sponsorship of the match ball and to Tony Wood who donated the prize for the Man of the Match award which – not surprisingly – went the way of Joe Price.

Our thanks to Hay St Marys who played their part in what was a highly entertaining final and congratulations to Rhosgoch Rangers on their win.

Presteigne St Andrews FC would like to thank all those who supported the final and we would further wish Rhosgoch all the very best of luck for next weekend’s Spar Mid Wales League second-division League Cup final in which they will take on Machynlleth at Llandrindod Wells FC.
