Presteigne St Andrews FC held their annual Dinner and Awards Night at the clubhouse at Llanandras Park on Saturday, 31 May.
More than 50 people attended the night where we enjoyed a very nice meal as provided by Patty Vaughan and her team.
Club chairman Alan Randell welcomed everyone to the night and made reference to the fact this would be his last dinner as chairman after 14 years in the post – he was thanked for his efforts over that period by Tony Wood.
We were then entertained by guest speaker Gareth Davies who told us stories from his time as a professional footballer with Hereford United, Crystal Palace and Reading – as well as probably a non-professional (only in the sense he wasn’t being paid) spell with Rhosgoch Rangers.
When it came to the awards side of things, it was to turn into the ‘Jon Cawley Show’ as the popular young defender cleaned up as he picked up no fewer than three awards.
The evening was rounded off in the usual manner – propping up the bar, having silly photographs taken and generally reminiscing about seasons gone by, while the disco did its stuff – and very good it was too.
A word for the three managers – or, in one case, an assistant manager – who kept their speeches to very manageable and listenable lengths – in other words, they didn’t go on for too long.
Many thanks to everyone who attended the night – we hope you enjoyed the evening and here’s hoping we can build on that for next year.
