Will there be postponements due to a referees’ shortage?

Presteigne Reserves will be without a Mid Wales League (South) match on Saturday, 4 October and the reason is there are not enough match officials to go round on what is a busy day of local football.

The situation has left the league secretary, Paul Worts with no option but to call off the Mid Wales League (South) programme in its entirety.

‘On Saturday, 4 October, The FAW have requested 27 officials to cover Welsh Cup First Round ties in the Central Wales area.

‘After appointments are also made for the Spar Mid Wales League and Emrys Morgan Cup Round 1, this would mean probably no referees available to referee matches in the Mid Wales League (South).

‘After much consideration, we have, therefore, taken the decision that no Mid Wales League (South) fixtures will be made for this date.

‘I would be grateful if any club wishing to play on the Friday night or the following Tuesday or Wednesday could advise by the end of the weekend and I shall see what I can organise.

‘Please note that the situation regarding referees is now a real problem and I can foresee games having to be postponed this season.

‘For example in today’s Aberystwyth & District League they have two referees available to cover all matches in their two divisions.’
