Radnor on the rise?

The Spar Mid Wales League’s secretary Phil  Woosman reports that three clubs from the feeder leagues have applied to join the second division next season.

Of local interest is Radnor Valley who are looking to step up to the higher level from the Mid Wales League (South).

Radnor are enjoying their best season for years in the ‘South’ and are currently in second place in the table – one point behind the leaders, Carno Reserves, who, as a Reserve team, would not be eligible for promotion.

Also looking to step up next season are Dolgellau – who were, until recently, in the Spar League but who, after relegation from the first division, opted for a return to Cambrian Tyres League football.

They have a bit to do if they are to finish in the top two of the Cambrian Tyres League this season as they are currently mid-table.

Bettws are the third club to put their name in the hat for promotion at the end of the season – they are in the Montgomeryshire Amateur League and are going very well this season.

They are currently two points clear at the top of the first division and have two games in hand over second-placed Caersws Reserves.

All three clubs have been told they have until the end of April 2015 to meet the necessary ground criteria if they are to be considered for promotion next season.

They would then have to finish in the top two places in their respective leagues to win automatic promotion – failure to do that would lead them relying on vacancies in the Spar Mid Wales League, second division if they are to take up their place for next season.
