‘Weedo’ disappointed to have picked up only a point

My thanks to the first-team manager Mark Weiland for sending over his views on the first team’s 1-1 draw at home to Bettws.

‘Weedo’ felt his side had ultimately paid the price for a slow start in this one, while he also believed the pitch had been a factor.

“We didn’t start the game very well and were behind about 10 minutes in when a long ball forward fell to Bobby Bird who, sadly, headed the ball out of Rob Williams’ path and straight to a Bettws player who finished neatly.

“This served to wake us up a bit and we started to get to grips with the game.

“We had a couple of corners and half-chances and I thought we were the better side towards the end of the first half.

“We did equalise right on the stroke of half time – I played a ball through which the defender misjudged and Ioan Hughes coolly slid it underneath the keeper; it was a great time to score.

“We then came out in the second half and started really well as we then dominated possession.

“Their keeper made numerous saves and I can’t remember Rambo [Anthony Vernalls] have a save to make for us.

“The pitch was very heavy and I think both teams tired towards the end.

“I’m a little disappointed we didn’t win the game after we dominated the second half, but a point is better than none at all.

“It was really good to see the lads battling again and can see the effort they’re putting in.

“It was good to be back playing at home, and it’s been a good start to 2016.

“We have now got a really tough game against a strong Kerry side next week, in which we will have to be up for it if we are going to be able to compete.”
