A tough day on the road

Disappointing weekend in terms of results

It wasn’t to be for our two teams at the weekend as both the first team and the Reserves slipped to 3-1 defeats.

The first team exited the Spar Mid Wales League Cup at the first-round stage when they went down 3-1 at home to Carno on Friday, 7 October.

Ashley Griffiths was provider for Matt Strangwood who scored a fine goal for Presteigne who led 1-0 against their higher-graded opponents at half-time, but Carno were to hit back after the interval.

But the players came out of this with a great deal of credit as they kept fighting all the way throughout that second half.

As for the Reserves, this was always likely to prove their toughest test of the season to date as they headed to the Mid Wales League (South) leaders Talgarth Town on Saturday, 8 October.

Again, we were on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline but, as yet, I don’t have too many details of this one – I will add them in when they come to hand.

So, a first league defeat of the season for Dale Tomkins’ side, but we need to keep a bit of perspective here – this was Talgarth’s first team and our Reserves, so it was always likely to be a decent test.

The Reserves are third in the table, with Talgarth Town and Brecon Northcote above them – but there’s a long way to go.

A reminder the first team will return to action on Tuesday, 11 October when they will host Aberystwyth University at Llanandras Park.

The kick of will be at 7.30pm and admission will be the usual £3.00 for adults, £1.50 for senior citizens and £1.00 for youngsters under the age of 16.
