It’s a home game against Aberystwyth University

Presteigne St Andrews FC will be back into Spar Mid Wales League action on Tuesday, 11 October when they will host Aberystwyth University at Llanandras Park (Kick Off: 7.30pm).

We normally end up playing the students at home in a midweek game due to the fact we have floodlights and they are always playing ‘catch up’ with their fixtures because, of course, they have to play all of their games in term time.

In fact, the students have played only one league game so far and that was a 3-0 home defeat by the league leaders, Builth Wells.

So, trying to establish any sort of form guide for them is a bit tricky, but they are usually competitive in all areas of the field.

I mentioned they are going to be playing ‘catch up’ – well, tonight is their first of five scheduled games in the next 12 days, so it will be pretty full on for the Uni.

As for Presteigne’s team news, manager Tom Ammonds tells me he is going to have to make a few changes.

“There is no Jamie Durban for us tonight so we are going to have to make a change in goal, but we are lucky in that we have Simon Hamer to come in there,” he said.

“Ironically, given our opponents tonight, college and university commitments also mean we are without a number of players.

“For various reasons, there will be no Adam Crowe, John Cawley, Kieran Lusher or Josh Gardner.

“But – fresh from scoring a penalty at the Cardiff City Stadium – Mark Weiland steps up, while Gareth Bull gets his chance after showing good form in the Reserves.

“Ioan Hughes also comes into the squad for this one and I’m confident we will put up another good showing.”

Admission prices for tonight’s game will be the usual £3.00 for adults, £1.50 for senior citizens and £1.00 for youngsters under the age of 16.
