Presteigne St Andrews FC and Aberystwyth University battled out a 4-4 draw in an entertaining Spar Mid Wales league, second division game at Llanandras Park on Tuesday, 11 October.

To say this game ebbed and flowed would be something of an understatement – although the first half did little to suggest it would turn out to be a thriller in that there was only the one goal before the break.

Aberystwyth University lead 1-0 at the interval, but Presteigne then came out strongly immediately after it and turned the game on its head to take a 2-1 lead.

But the students hit back to square the game at 2-2 and things then looked to be very much in the balance.

To their credit, Presteigne upped their game and opened out a two-goal lead in making it 4-2 and, with only 10 minutes remaining, it looked as though a home win was on the cards.

But the Uni refused to roll over and the came storming back in the closing stages to net two more goals of their own to earn a point.

“It was gutting in the end but overall I was very happy with our performance,” said manager Tom Ammonds.

“We just need to learn a little more about game management and take time out of the game when we are leading,” he added

Matt Strangwood netted twice in this one, while Tom Crichton and Ashley Griffiths were also on target.

The supporters certainly had their money’s worth in terms of entertainment value from this one and, while Presteigne will doubtless be disappointed to have let a two-goal lead slip in the closing stages, my sources tell me the Uni finished strongly and so were good value for their point.

Congratulations to Kai Dayas (pictured above) who has been named Player of the Month and who is seen receiving his award from assistant manager Zac Evans.
